On the way home from Big Sur, I passed Waddell Creek, a local hot spot for board riders. (Waddell Creek is a part of Big Basin Redwoods State Park) Only a few kiters were out but I captured a few images.

On my way home from Big Sur last week I stopped at Moss Landing SB hoping for some otter action. I got it with a small problem – the reflections on the water were difficult to deal with – think really bright high fog and haze. And would you believe those critters stay down close to the water? Nevertheless, I got a few shots in.

Big Sur River and Pico Blanco

I spent a couple of days in Big Sur this week. Most of the time I was in Garrapata State Park; Garrapata is a magnificent and diverse park that will be closed in July – if we don’t save it. The other State Parks I visited were Point Lobos and Andrew Molera. I also spent a foggy, dark morning in Pacific Grove waiting for a sunrise that never – from my point of view – happened. The fog just got a lighter shade of gray.

I took quite a few pictures so I’ve broken my favorites in to two categories: Flowers and Landscape/Seascape. You can see the flowers here and the others here.

Mitchell Canyon: Mount Diablo SP

Poppies and Lupine at Mitchell Canyon

Mitchell Canyon is on the North side of Mount Diablo State Park. It’s known for spring flowers so I thought I’d give it a try. I barely scratched the surface of what’s available in the Park but there were some nice flowers along the trail. BTW, Mount Diablo is not on the closure list. The Park has all the hiking trails you could ask for and, if you want hills, it’s the right place. I’m used to being alone in the State Parks on week days but on Wednesday, the Park was fairly busy. As in, I saw several other hikers. Recent work has been updated with some favorites from the day.

I stopped in “Old Clayton” for coffee on the way home. Cup O’Jo was the only place in town – there’s not much town there. The coffee was only a two cup rating but you don’t have to worry about seating. I was the only person there – even the barrista disappeared after serving me.

Mason Street Door

I spent a few hours walking around Telegraph Hill and North Beach. Still on the look out for more doors. I found a couple interesting ones plus, as a bonus, some nice flowers. Check out Recent Work for some shots.

I’ve added two galleries to rezPhotography. One features California State Parks that are on the list to be closed this year. There are so many things wrong with closing the parks it’s hard to know where to start criticizing the move – it won’t save any significant amount of money, the parks can’t actually be closed in many cases and so on. Read Protect Our Parks for more info.

The other Gallery is Doors. Why doors? I just find them interesting, that’s why. Doors, of course, have a simple function: they give us privacy and security. But how people decorate their doors is interesting. Add to that, doors often have a symbolic meaning: Consider this quote: “There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception” (Aldous Huxley) So, as you look at these doors, consider what hidden meanings they might – or might not – have. What do they hide and what do they reveal? This is a work in progress so check back for updates.

Marshall Beach

Texture at Sunset

For sunset last night, I went to Marshall Beach. That’s just outside the Golden Gate Bridge although you will see no pictures of the Bridge for now. But, if you want an outstanding place to take a picture of the Bridge, Marshall Beach would be a good choice. You might want to check the tides before you go, however. It’s always embarrassing to have to get the Coast Guard to come and get you. Check out Recent Work for some of my shots from last night.

McLaren Park

King of the Pond

McLaren Park- You will have to search for McLaren on that page.(See here for a Google map for the location.) is a San Francisco City Park. I’d say it’s hidden away on the South border of the City but maybe it was just hidden from me. This was my first visit there. It’s a large park with a fair amount of hiking, a pond that seemed be mostly for ducks and a few flowers. Hey, it’s winter, what did I expect? Check out Recent work for a few more shots.

And, for food before, or after your visit try Breakfast at Tiffany’s: 2499 San Bruno Ave., San Francisco. Just get there before 1:30 pm. Just want coffee? Try Farley‘s on your way back to…where ever
