San Mateo Coast – San Pedro Headlands
I went on a ‘scouting trip’ to see what the San Pedro Headlands(1) has to offer. Nice hike albeit with some fairly steep but short climbs and sweeping views of the coastline. The south view overlooks Devil’s Slide while the north view is the Pacifica coast line. Quite a few flowers and an Eucalyptus ‘forest’ near the highway. If you’re thinking “beach,” this is not your place. Go north or south but not near here. See Kenneth & Gabrielle Adelman’s California Coastal Record for pictures from the air.
It was an overcast day so good for flowers, not so much for the big scenes. Still, I got a sense of the place and hope you do to from the pictures on my recent work page.
1. There seems to some disagreement about the name of this place. The sign at the trailhead says “San Pedro Headlands” while the stewardship project refers to it as “Pedro Point Headlands.” Same place. Maps refer to the point as San Pedro Point.
