I’ve been hearing about all the action near Santa Cruz Harbor for a couple of weeks now so I decided to take a shot(Don’t you love those puns?) at catching some of the critters doing their thing. Unfortunately, photography is like gambling – you never know what you’re going to get. (But the payoff in photography is always better. Contrast smoke filled casino with quiet beach. See?) What I got was a cold day with just a few animals – pelicans, shorebirds, one seal close enough to get a shot and one otter too far away to capture. I came home via one of the better scenic drives ’round here – the San Mateo Coast. There were a few windsurfers out at Waddell Creek so I stopped there for a few minutes. Then I stopped at Pigeon Point Lighthouse and caught a couple of shots. I decided not to stay for sunset but, in retrospect, that was a mistake. You can see my favorites shots from the day here.
Coffee stops for the day were the Kind Grind at Santa Cruz Harbor – OK but not great – and the Half Moon Bay Coffee Company in, would you believe, Half Moon Bay. The Half Moon Bay Coffee place has the best deal in town – $1 for a cup, refill it as many times as you want. Good pastries also. Check it out the next time you’re in Half Moon Bay.
